2008 Christmas Hamper Day Thank You
The Adelaide Entertainment Centre was a hive of activity on Wednesday 17th December when more than 1,000 Christmas hampers and toy parcels were distributed to needy families from Adelaide's western and northern suburbs.
Around 70 volunteers including The Governor and Mrs Scarce, and The Hon Michael Atkinson MP, on behalf of The Premier, were delighted to assist in the distribution of food hampers and toys.
It was a joyful occasion with Father Christmas arriving on a Fire Engine accompanied by Laura Brougham, former finalist of the popular program, 'So You Think You Can Dance'.
The greatest joy, though, was seeing the smiles of the children and their parents as the toy parcels and hampers were received. All of the toys had been generously donated through the Target / UnitingCare Share Christmas Appeal and direct donations to UCW Bowden by members of the public.
This program is delivered entirely through donations and volunteers. Support such as this is essential and greatly valued.
During the month of December, volunteer Gavan Gribble coordinated teams of volunteers from Commonwealth Bank, Pedare Christian College, Westminster School, Clipsal and the community to pack the food hampers. The hampers included 3 different diet groups: Muslim, Vietnamese and General.
UCW Bowden thanks the generosity of so many South Australians who donated their time, money and goods to enable other families to experience some of the joy of Christmas. UCW Bowden especially thanks their major sponsors: Morialta Trust, The Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Commonwealth Bank, Australian Executor Trustees and VISY Board.
