Max’s Story - A Story from Emergency relief

Max’s daughter, Emilia was diagnosed with a terminal illness four months ago. She had already been through so much prior to her diagnosis and she was facing the prospect of even more hospital visits and operations.  If this wasn’t enough, the expense of medical bills was stacking up against Max and he was not able to work full time hours due to taking care of Emilia. Max had reached a point where he could barely afford to pay the bills for all of Emilia’s treatment and the prospect of having to feed and clothe his family was too much for him. Close to breaking point, Max came to UnitingCare Wesley Bowden’s Emergency Assistance Department for help. He was grateful to receive support and understanding from the volunteers as well as being put in contact with Financial Counsellors. With the help of food and clothing vouchers from Emergency Assistance and practical advice on budgeting and managing debts Max is now coping much better with his difficult situation.

Emilia is still terminally ill but with the help of UnitingCare Wesley Bowden, Max is now able to feed and clothe his family at the same time as supporting his child through such an uncertain time.
