DoHA showcases NW Metro CRCC for its highly successful capacity building project

In June 2009, the department of Health and Ageing granted funds to each of the 54 Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centres (CRCC) to conduct a Regional Discussion Forum and Capacity Building Project in their region with the goal of reviewing the way respite care was being provided in the region and how it could be improved.

As one of the Centres, UnitingCare Wesley Bowden's North West Metro CRCC was required to organise and facilitate regional forums along with NRCP service providers to share information and best practice evidence about respite care services.

Priorities for action in each region were indentified followign completion of the forums and as capacity building projects. An evaluation of the Regional Discussion Forums and Capacity Building Project was undertaken in late 2010 to determine their effectiveness, appropriateness and efficiency of the Project.

DoHA decided to showcase 19 successful projects that resulted from this project, and Case Study 7 - Travelling Roadshow for the Western Region - highlights the contribution of the NW Metro CRCC.

Congratulations must go to UCW Bowden's Angela Bruce, Heather Franchini, and the CCS team for the work that they all contributed to the NRCP Capacity Building Project last year.

Case Study 7. Travelling Roadshow for the Western Region
CRCC:
NW Metro, SA
Description of the project:
This project involved development and implementation of a model for running a travelling roadshow to promote information and respite services where many hidden carers were thought to be. The project has involved the design and development of display materials. The project has included collaboration between NRCP providers, local government and local CALD communities. The roadshow was initially delivered in shopping centres in the western region of Adelaide – a shopping centre package with graphics was specifically designed for the roadshow.

The Centre’s assessment is that it has increased community awareness of carers, their caring role and where they fit in society. It has enhanced regional relationships with other community care providers which has increased the capacity of the whole region to provide improved quality of services. By providing the community with face to face contact with a range of service agencies, hidden carers have been given information on services available to them, assisting them to make an informed choice should the need occur.
Resources created by the project:
•    Background documentation on the planning for the project and flyers prepared for the roadshow.
•    Brochure.
