Parachute Play

In the Tiny Tots room the children have several short group times where they come together to sing, share in story time or play games. The parachute was introduced as a new game this month. The children practiced getting into a circle and then were show how they could move the parachute up and down to make “waves”. It required everyone to participate and work as a team. At the end everyone hid underneath, sang a quick song and then shouted “Boo” as we all reappeared. Surprise!!

'Lift The Lip' visits Torrensville Child and Family Centre

On Wednesday 24th June, the South Australian Dental service came to visit the kindy Room.

With permission from parents/caregivers, the dentist lifted each child’s top lip up for a tooth and gum check.

A written report was provided to parents as to the outcome of the check up.

Children were given stickers and a colouring book to take home and share with their families.

The Centre received a certificate to say that the dental clinic had been to visit.

We look forward to another visit soon.

Eating My Colourful Vegies and Fruit

Our centre has been chosen to participate in a new program to encourage young children to try new vegie-type foods called ‘Eating my colourful vegies and fruit’. The program provides an avocado sampler of sensory food learning experiences for children aged 3 – 5 years. Children at our Centre will be exploring, making and sharing avocados and other mainly green vegies and fruit over the next few weeks. The program has been provided by avocado growers of Australia and samples of avocados will be available for children to investigate, taste and cook with. Avocados are a great way to get young children eating vegie-type foods. They’re extremely healthy and their smooth creamy texture is something young and old love eating. Children’s energy needs dramatically increase because of their rapiod growth and high activity levels. That’s why it is important to add high energy foods to their diets, without increasing their intake of less nutritious foods. Avocados are high in monosaturated fats and are a brilliant source of energy and also offer many other health benefits to active, growing bodies. We look forward to working with you and your children during this exciting program and will keep you informed of the activities we have planned. Thank you from the Kindy Team Ljilja, Ruwa and Kelly
