Veterans Home Care

Veterans' Home Care is part of a broader Australian Government strategy designed to assist veterans, war widows and widowers who wish to continue living at home, but who need a small amount of practical help. Veterans’ Home Care is part of an Australian Government strategy to ensure veterans and war widows or widowers maintain optimal health, well-being and independence.
VHC services include the following:

Home Help
Aims to maintain or boost people's independence in their own home by assisting with general housework such as vacuuming, mopping, ironing, clothes washing, cleaning the bathroom and toilet and shopping by list.

Personal Care
Assists with the essential tasks of daily living including bathing, getting dressed, toileting, care of the skin, nails and hair, application of creams and medical stockings, and preparing meals.

Safety Related Home and Garden Maintenance
To minimise environmental hazards around the home, our handymen can ensure a safe environment for clients by cutting back branches that may hang over pathways, changing smoke alarm batteries, cleaning out gutters, fixing leaking taps, repairing broken door or gate hinges etc and window cleaning.

Respite
UnitingCare Wesley Bowden can arrange a support worker to step in and provide your carer with rest and relief.  Respite can be arranged for a couple of hours or days and is available in the home or in a residential facility.

To receive Veterans’ Home Care services clients must be assessed as needing home care assistance.  To be assessed clients must be
•    A veteran of the Australian defence forces or
•    a war widow or widower of a veteran of the Australian defence forces

And have
•    A Repatriation Health Card for All Conditions (Gold Card) or
•    A Repatriation Health Card for Specific Conditions (White Card)
You must be assessed by the Department of Veterans Affairs before accessing any of these services. To arrange an assessment for services call the regional Veterans’ Home Care Agency on 1300 550 450.

Veteran’s Home Care Copayments
Clients will be asked to pay a small fee to service providers for home help ($5 per service), Personal Care ($5 per hour) and Home and Garden Maintenance ($5 per hour).
