Harmony Day is fast approaching and will be celebrated on March 21.
Harmony Day is about community participation, inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
Harmony Day began in 1999 and thousands of schools, community groups and organisations across Australia have hosted Harmony Day events. The 2010 theme is ‘Express Yourself’. This reiterates the importance of diversity in the workplace, schools and the community through action, performance, fashion and food.
This year UnitingCare Wesley Bowden is celebrating Harmony Day in two different ways. On Thursday March 18, our Multicultural Officers will be attending the UCW Bowden childcare centres at Athol Park and Torrensville. The five Multicultural Officers will be teaching the children songs, dances and stories from the Afghani, African, Bosnian and Herzegovinian, Iranian and Spanish speaking cultures, as well as helping the children to cook traditional food and decorate special Harmony Day cookies!
On Tuesday March 23, UCW Bowden will host a morning tea to celebrate the many different cultures who work together at the organisation. This will provide an opportunity for everyone to sample the different cultural delights on offer and reflect on the diverse world that we live in.
