Shrove Tuesday is just around the corner and with it comes the promise of Pancakes!
Shrove Tuesday is the last day before the period Christians call ‘Lent;’ – the 40 days leading up to Easter when Christians remember the time Jesus spent fasting in the wilderness.
Historically during the time of Lent people gave up luxury items, including foods such as butter and eggs. This led to the tradition of making pancakes on the day before Lent to use up the butter and eggs and Shrove Tuesday became known as Pancake Day.
UnitingCare Pancake Day provides an opportunity for all parts of the community to hold an event and sell $2 pancakes; you may even want to organise pancake races or pancake tossing competitions!
Funds raised assist UnitingCare agencies to support some of the most vulnerable and marginalised members of our community.
Why not choose to support UnitingCare Wesley this year by holding your own pancake event in the run up to Pancake Day or on the day itself, Tuesday 16 February.
To register free call 1800 060 543 and please ask to support UnitingCare Wesley! We will provide you with a host pack to make your event a success, and remember… every cent counts!
